| A few miles
past Hasegawa you will come to a sign pointing to Koki and Hamoa Beaches. Turn
left and proceed to Hamoa Beach, one of the most beautiful in the
islands. |
 |
|
Continue
back on the Hana Highway for another 15, or so, miles to Haleakala National
Park, home of 'Oheo Gulch
better known as "The Seven Sacred Pools." You
will want to park, in the parking lot, (there are public restrooms here) for an
enjoyable walk on the paths available to hikers. There are pools in which you
can swim (check the depth and be safe) and an incredible bamboo
forest. |
After enjoying all that the Haleakala National Park has to offer, you have the
choice to continue around the island to get home, or to return the way you
came. If you are of the adventurous spirit and have consulted a Park Ranger
first, you might choose to continue onward where you will discover many
sections of unpaved road. (You should be aware that rental car companies do not
allow this choice. If you go this way, you may negate certain parts of your
rental contract; if you get stuck, they will not take responsibility to rescue
you; you will be on your own.) It is quite breathtaking and isolated.
